We all wants to be with our loved ones. Many of us are afraid to be alone. But there is always brighter side of everything. Obviously loneliness can also teach you a lot of other things.
The Best time of life is sometimes the worst one, because it can teach you lots of important lessons for life:
1. Being alone proves that you, and only you, can be your best friend.
The harsh truth of life is that people give up on you after a while. Sometimes even your closest friends. There’s no one to fix your troubles and only you can make yourself feel better. After you learn to be happy alone, your expectations from people will reduce.
2. You learn that there is nothing unmanageable.
When you are lonely, you handle every situation on your own. Settling into to a new city, getting used to a new office, healing after a breakup, and everything else. Each and everything is sorted on its own. You realise that sadness associated with loneliness is not as bad. It gets over and things get better.
3. With time, you learn to control your emotions.
Things get better with time. However, the bigger truth is that you get better with time. You learn to subside your emotions and you learn how to not get swayed by them. It is something everyone should learn because our emotions often take out the worst in us.
4. You learn to never associate your happiness with another person.
You boyfriend or your girlfriend is not your world. You have a life beyond them.
If you believe that your happiness is dependent on someone, then your life’s mantra is absolutely wrong. Your happiness should depend only on your actions and only on things you do.
5. You make decisions on your own.
You don’t need approvals. There are times in our lives when we want our loved ones to ‘okay’ everything for us. But being lonely teaches you how to stop asking people for help. It makes you more independent and facilitates your decision-making process.
6. Zeros distractions. More productivity.
At times, the company of other people turns out to be nothing but chaotic. It affects your work. When you are alone, you work harder.
7. You do the things you actually want to do.
No compromises. No alterations of plans. You can sit alone and enjoy a coffee in a street cafe or watch a film alone. You can choose to not drink. Basically, you can do everything according to your free will.
8. You befriend silence.
Silence improves you as a person. You learn how to ignore certain things. You speak less and listen more. This is followed by patience. Silence heals.
9. You learn to pick yourself.
Why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.
When you have no one in your life, is when you learn how to fight your battles alone.
10. It brings you closer to your parents.
They are the only ones who love you unconditionally and will be there for you no matter what happens. All their time is yours. They will never be busy for you and they will try their best to help you.
11. You learn about who truly cares.
We often get carried away by people. We start trusting them and become dependent on those who are not worth it. When you are alone, you realise who your true friends are. You learn who takes you for granted.
12. You become humble.
Of course, when you understand life so closely and analyse yourself, you become less egoistic. You learn to choose your battles. You learn to spend your time on worthwhile things. You learn to value people who are important. Most importantly, you begin to love yourself even more.
