Sometimes it’s just a case of you reframing your point of view. Your mind is really powerful, and when you’re constantly thinking about negative things, you’re going to invite negative energy into your life. When you adopt a positive mindset, it’s much easier to be more positive as a person.

Although it is difficult to act cheery when things are falling apart around you, it’s vital that you do force a smile out. They say that laughter makes for the best medicine, and it really is true. The more positive you are about things, the more you will eventually reap the rewards.

See Failure As A Chance To Grow

Another important tip on how to deal with stress and become more peaceful is to see failure as a chance to grow. If you see failure as a really bad thing that makes you crawl into your shell and give up trying, you’re certainly not alone. But seeing failure in this way won’t help you improve your lot; instead, it will keep you on the bottom rung.

To become a princess of Zen, it’s time to start changing the way you see failure. Instead of turning away, growing frustrated and assuming that you just cannot do something, you should see failure as a chance to grow. Use it as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and improve for next time. Everyone suffers setbacks, but the the successful people use failures for their own gain.

Spend Time With People You Love

Whenever you’re feeling stressed, it’s a great idea to spend some time with the people you truly love. These are the people who are going to bring some joy back into your life; they’ll make you smile, and they’ll make you realise that, deep down, your troubles are just trivial. They can be overcome.

Moreover, your closest friends are the people you can talk to about your problems. They will help you to deal with stress and anxiety, and they will provide a shoulder to cry on. Your friends and family are your support system – use them!

Eat The Right Foods

Eating healthy and balanced diet is another good tip on how to deal with stress and become a princess of Zen.

Eating the wrong foods can weaken your mental faculties, and they can even make you feel blue. They can leave you bereft of energy, tired – and even more worn down.

So it’s time to start adopting the right diet that will load your body with vitamins and nutrients that promote physical and mental wellbeing. Vitamins B, C and E in particular are known to combat stress, as are the omega-3 and 6 fatty acids. And when you eat the right foods, you will feel full for longer. This will ensure you resist the temptation to binge eat whenever you are feeling stressed.

Purge Your Wardrobe

This is my favourite tip on how to deal with stress. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, I always feel that it’s a great idea to purge my wardrobe. The last time I did this felt particular good, because there were so many items of clothing that it really was ridiculous.

It felt good to get rid of all unnecessary clothing. It helped to create space, reduce clutter, and it made me feel renewed. If you open your wardrobe in the morning or at night and sigh because you just don’t know what to choose or where to look, it’s a sure sign that it’s time to purge your wardrobe.

Switch Off

One of the reasons more of us are getting stressed in 2015 is because we’re literally taking our work home with us. 5 o’clock used to signal the end of the working day, but not anymore. Instead, we’re checking our emails on the commute home from work; and we’re checking them right until it’s time to go to bed. And sometimes we even wake up in the middle of the night and check our emails.

So our next tip on how to deal with stress is to simply switch off. This means switching off your cell phone, your iPad, and even your laptop. It can even mean switching off your television and indeed all electronic devices. You need peace, calm, and you need some sleep.

Don’t Worry

Worrying is described as something that emanates from fear and a need to be in control at all times. When you worry, you feel heavy with energy. And you find that worrying grabs your attention and stops you from focusing on any tasks at hand.

The problem with worrying is that, not only does it greedily devour all our attention, but it’s often all for nothing. Things rarely turn out as bad as we think they will. Whether we’re worrying about an email we have to send off, or the fact that our date still hasn’t texted us back, we’re making ourselves stressed for absolutely no reason. It’s time to kick the habit and stop worrying.

Don’t Compete

Another tip on how to deal with stress and become more zen is to avoid competing. Sure, if you’re an athlete you will obviously compete with your fellow competitors to win something. But in terms of your everyday life, it’s time to stop competing with others and instead go with the flow.

Unspoken competition with your friends over who gets married first is a bad thing, as is competition for jobs, dates, success and so on. Capitalism has taught us that competition is the be all and end all, but it really isn’t; not for a calm, stress-free spirit anyway! So relax.

Simplify Your Computer

The computer is a place where many of us spend most of our days. Although this isn’t very Zen-like, it’s just the way things are. For this reason, if you can’t get off the computer completely, then you should at least tidy it up, so that it’s as simple as possible.

If you have a cluttered desktop, purge it. If you have files and documents scattered all over the place, now is the time to neatly arrange them in separate, easy-to-find folders. If your inbox is stuffed with long forgotten emails and spam letters, it’s time to delete.

Take A Walk

The office is a stuffy, stifling environment. Spending 8 + hours a day there can be draining. If possible, use your breaks to get out of the building and take a walk. Step away from the busy streets and find somewhere quiet to just take a few minutes out, breathe deeply, and refresh your mind.

These moments of solitude are important for keeping you grounded and relaxed. We all need  a little bit of time to recharge our batteries before returning with renewed vigour.
